The news editor stepped in. She also raked her brain and tried to figure the mystery of skirt and death. Correspondents from small districts are known for writing atrocious English. It is not their fault. They are fluent in Hindi but English is generally not their cup of tea. But this English had probably left all angrez behind.
An idea struck our news editor. She knew this man also writes for Hindi Pioneer. “Check Hindi people about the report from Lakhimpur”, she asked the sub-editor. He went to Hindi Pioneer section and within minutes came back in all smiles. He had deciphered the mystery. “The skirt was the river Ghaghra,” he said trying to conceal his giggle. Ghaghra is a major river in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Ghaghra is a dress worn by women in rural India and resembles long skirt.
The correspondent had written the report in Hindi and then using the translation tool of google got the report translated in English and he dutifully sent the report for publication.
Once the mystery was solved there was a peel of laughter in the newsroom. Our Sports desk in-charge shouted: “From tomorrow onwards I will take a bath in skirt.”

लखीमपुर-खीरी। ईसानगर थाना क्षेत्र में खेल रहे दो बच्चे अचानक घाघरा नदी के नाले में गिर गए। जिससे दोनों की डूबने से मौत हो गयी। रविवार की सुबह दोनों के शव बरामद हो गए। लेकिन पोस्टमार्टम के बगैर ही परिवारीजनों ने दोनों का अंतिम संस्कार करवा दिया।
जानकारी के मुताबिक, ईसानगर थाना क्षेत्र के ग्राम कैरातीपुरवा निवासी रमाकांत का 10 वर्षीय बेटा अंकित तथा मैकू लाल का 12 वर्षीय बेटा छोटे शनिवार की दोपहर करीब तीन बजे गांव के करीब से निकले नाले के पास खेल रहे थे। खेलते-खेलते अचानक दोनों उसी नाले में गिर गए। जिससे डूबने से उनकी मौत हो गयी। उधर जब काफी देर तक दोनों घर नहीं पंहुचे तो परिवारीजनों ने उनकी खोजबीन शुरू की। लेकिन कहीं पता नहीं चला। इस पर परिजनों को किसी घना का अंदेशा हुआ। ग्रामीणों व परिवार के लोगों द्वारा रात भर उनकी खोज की जाती रही। सुबह गांव से कुछ दूरी पर दोनों बच्चों के शव उतरते मिले। जिन्हें ग्रामीणों ने बाहर निकाल लिया। दोनों की मौत से गांव में शोक का मातम था। रविवार की दोपहर दोनों ही शवों का बिना पोस्टमार्टम कराये अंतिम संस्कार कर दिया गया।
